/ Interview with Frithjof Schwerdt /
The German racer Frithjof Schwerdt, aged 30, was the new ACO Musto Skiff World Champion.
How do you feel after becoming the winner of the ACO Musto Skiff 2017?
It is absolutely fantastic to become a world champion. A very long existing dream came true.
What has been the most difficult moment of the competition?
After an almost sleepless night the last day was my toughest of the championship. In rough conditions brillant Bruce Keen was about to make it. He had an incredible speed, but I stayed focused and could make the last races without capsize. I defended my lead and won the title.
If you had to choose a sentence or three words to describe what ACO Musto Skiff 2017 has been, what would they be?
Thrilling, fair, surprising.
Besides the title of winner, what else do you take from this experience in Spain?
Sunburn and a shirt from the Bierkönig.
From your point of view as a sailor, do you think that these solutions to drain the water improve the facilities and the tasks of preparation and celebration of the sport competitions?
Cleaning the boat after sailing in salty water is very important. That means a good working drainage system is essential for every marina. This helps all dingy sailors.
What is your next sport challenge?
I would like to learn foiling. The Americas Cup inspired me and demonstrated the beauty and high speed of sailing.
Will we see you next year in Melbourne (Australia) on the 9th ACO Musto Skiff?
I don’t know right now. It is a long travel, but an amazing country with beautiful sailing spots.
